'Concerning Worry'

All creatures look to you
to give them food in due time.

- Psalm 104:27

Just about my least favorite thing about raising children is anything having to do with new drivers. I don't want them to be hurt, and just as deeply, I don't want them to hurt others. Of course, the new driver in question invariably dismisses my fretting, confident as young people tend to be. I was articulating my anxiety one day to a kid getting ready to set out, and in response to his impatience, I said, "Well, I'm just concerned."

He responded, "Mom, just because you're concerned doesn't mean you have to worry."

And that certainly gave me something to consider the rest of the day--not only in relation to his driving, but, of course, in terms of the bigger picture. Concern is one thing, worry another. What's the difference, and which is more attuned to a trusting heart?

Loving God, I trust in your care and give you all my concerns. Transform my worries into trust.

- Amy Welborn

Thank you Amy, what a wonderful devotion.

It's true, one thing is being concerned or thinking about something. Worrying is another thing. Worrying is having to do with lack of faith and when you want to take matters into your on hands but help and the ability to take of it yourself is out of reach.

God is good. He loves us and He provides everything necessary for each one of us. And He sends provisions to provide for our needs, If we come to Him and ask Him.

Dear Lord, increase my faith and trust in you and help me to hand over my concerns to you before they turn into worry.

Father, thank You for giving me the breath of life. I will spend my life giving thanks and praise to You.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good".

I think the opposite of concern and worry. I think that "concern" with our family and friends can be entrusted to God. But that is contingent on whether the person we are concerned about has the tools to do the right thing - a fledgling who has been taught and guided going on a solo flight - then God carries him. Addressed concerns have solutions. We can entrust our concerns to God but we still have to do our part.

Worry is more an emotion tied to love. Even if we know in our hearts that our children have the tools, there are always unknown outside circumstances that can affect them. And that is when prayer steps in. We have done all we can do on our part but we can only do so much because God is in control, and he knows what is truly best for each and every one of us.

Yes, prayers to our Living Faith Family today.

Worry, we all do it, because we want things to be perfect, our concerns of our love ones. No matter what the reason, let us pray that Jesus take this worry and anxious feelings out of our lives and reinforce our faith in God who is totally in control of our lives.

Amen.

Amy, you have a wise son! That was eye-opening! How often do we turn or concerns to out-and-out worrying instead of prayer? That lesson must be practiced to come easily! The worry builds anxiety while the prayer gives us peace as we trust in the Lord. Thank you, Amy!

Lord, turn our worries into prayer as we trust in your love and care. Amen.
