Yesterday we were faced with a new challenge. i now know had we not been
able to handle this new change it would not been granted to us. Yes It
will affect our daily life but we will forever be changed by it. God give
my family the strength and courage to continue to trust in God's plan for
Questions are always good as we prepare our hearts and learn from
the answers and (most of the times for me) questions in return. The
process of questioning, listening and searching lead us closer to God in
building our faith especially during the waiting period!
Hear what the disciples' first question was in this scene of Mark 4:38,
"Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke Him and said to
Him,"Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"
Can you relate? I do! "Where were You God when I was going through
difficult times and had no one? Where were You when the children were
being abused? Where were You when the babies were being aborted? Where
are You with all the sufferings in this world? Don't You have a plan for
us? Don't You love us?"
Jesus replied with a question in Mark 4:40, "Then He asked them, "Why are
you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?"
Listen to the faith chapter of today's reading in Hebrews 11:1-2, 13-14,
"The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith,
is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.
It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what
distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd....Each one of
these people of faith died not yet having in hand what was promised, but
still believing. How did they do it? They saw it way off in the distance,
waved their greeting, and accepted the fact that they were transients in
this world. People who live this way make it plain that they are looking
for their true home." (The Message)
Most of the times, my replies come from the Scriptures:
John 3:16, "God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, so
that everyone who believes in Him might have eternal life." That is why I
sent my Son to die for the sins of the world. This is My plan of long
ago, prophesied by the prophets and being fulfilled in My timing! I
Other times, my replies come from other people and their stories or
See the foot prints on the sand? There is only one set of foot
prints.....it is Mine, I was carrying you the whole time!
Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel; You have come to Your people.
Through Your holy prophets You promised of old that You would save us
from our sins from the hands of all who hate us. You promised to show
mercy to our fathers and to remember Your holy covenant. Blessed be the
Lord the God of Israel; You have come to us. Amen!
The gospel today is often told to show the power God has, tht he
can even command the wind and the sea. But it's actually my favorite
gospel for reminding us how to live every day. In our lives, we are often
faced with challenges and events that sometimes make us say "Hey God,
don't you care about me? Don't you see that I'm about to drown, that this
care or trouble of mine is really concerning me?" But what we fail to
remember is that He's right there, right in the very same boat we're in!
He's right next to us the whole time! Of course he cares! If our boat
sinks, he's going down too!
Like this Gospel reading, we have to remember that He is all powerful,
and can even command the sea and the storm. He is right with us the whole
time, and won't let us drown! We just need to have faith, as in the first
reading. Faith that He is there with us, and that He will save us from
Nicely said A. Miller. I relate to it, it inspired me and it reminded
me of how powerful God is and that he is always with me.
Thanks Cindy for the tip. I'll check it out. I did my graduate work
on Flannery shortly after she died many years ago and have always been
drawn by her devotion to the Faith. So I do try to follow and read what
she followed and read--even St. Thomas's Summa at night. She loved St.
Thomas! She was a great defender of the Faith.
Amen! Thank you Lord for this day and for this Gospel today. Thank
you Lord for my faith my life and for my family. Thank you Holy Father
most of all for your great sacrifice and for the opportunity of
forgiveness and reconcilliation. Please Holy Father have mercy. Amen
Here's another great fictional story about St Thomas Aquinas that
is so fabulous! Beautifully written. I couldn't put it down. A great
devotional read too.
